Kids Room Interior Designs: Do’s and Don’ts

The arrival of a new member of the family is something everybody looks forward to. Preparing or renovating a nursery or a kid’s room brings the excitement to another level.  The glittering eyes of the little ones, when they see a room that has been specialized and designed for them, takes them to cloud nine. And frankly, seeing their glowing faces gives butterflies in our tummies too. At Elevation Interior, Thane (West) we make sure that the demands of our little clients are understood just as the request of the adults.

When you’re decorating your child’s room, it can be tempting to go overboard with the theme and accessories. However, it’s important to remember that your child will be living in that room for at least a few years, so it’s best to pick a theme that they can grow into instead of one that they’ll outgrow in a few months.

Here are some do’s and don’t that you might want to consider while decorating your kid’s room:

Safety First

The first and foremost thing to consider is the safety of your child. Choose the best possible room for your child. The room should not be totally isolated from the rest of the house. You should be able to hear your child, when in need. Which floor is the room on? Make sure it is not the only room on the floor. The child should not feel scared or lonely. Plus, don’t forget to put a railing on to the stairs and windows. There are many child-proofing gadgets available in the market, we will do a separate blog on that. Follow us on Facebook and don’t miss our updates on the same.

Convertible Furniture

Buy furniture as per the layout and requirements. The requirements of a nursery are different from the requirements of a toddler’s room. Whereas a teenager’s room furniture is entirely different. A nursery requires a place for a crib and a changing table and a toddler’s room requires more space for a play area. A full-size bed and a study table are a necessity in a teenager’s room.

Most of the time we see parents going overboard and spending a lot of money on small-size furniture and forget how quickly kids grow out of it. Interior Designs are something that you don’t want to change for a few years. So, it is important to invest in pieces that would last you a few years. Take the help of the best interior designers in Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from Elevation Interior, to assist you in making the right choice. You will be surprised to see the designs of cribs that can convert into bigger beds or playpens as the kids grow or study tables that increase in height.

Theme Of The Room

Too much pink or too much blue may look good at first but it starts to lose its charm as time goes by. Also, children have the attention span of a goldfish. One day they are into ‘Paw Patrol’, the next day they like ‘Mickey Mouse’. Instead of painting the entire room with a particular cartoon character, try to find your child’s interests and hobbies and incorporate them into the room without making them stuck with a particular theme. This allows them to redecorate as and when they develop new hobbies. For example, if your kid has picked up a new sport, make an accent wall with medals and a trophy holder. This way no matter what their new interest is, they can still use it.

Color Scheme

Choose a soothing color scheme for the room. A child’s room should not be dull and boring. It should be inspiring. Especially a nursery or a toddler’s room. A colorful room not only elevates the mood and atmosphere but also helps in the sensory development of the child. For a nursery try wallpaper at the ceiling as when the child is lying in the crib his eyes are focused on the ceiling. The best thing about wallpapers is that you can customize them and change them easily. To know more about customized wallpapers call us at  +91- 9892343410 and schedule an appointment.

Storage

Don’t be under the impression that kids need less storage. You will be surprised how much storage you are going to require for a baby. It’s not going to be just a cute little wardrobe for the small pretty little dresses. You are going to need space for clothing, toiletries, toys, medicines and whatnot. As the child grows, the need for storage is going to increase only with piles of books and electronic gadgets. Storage is the key around which the entire interior design of a room revolves. At Elevation Interior, we specialize in designing multi-functional furniture-cum-storage designs as per your specifications. Visit our website www.elevationinterior.com to see our previous projects.

Lighting

The lighting of the kid’s room is as important, if not more important, as that of the rest of the house. Make sure that there is layered lighting. If you can install dimmers in the room, that is even better. This way you can control the amount of lighting as required. Make sure there is ample sunlight and ventilation in the room. Baby’s room requires soft lighting and not a bright glare. If you have a toddler, make sure that there is a lamp or accent light near the study table. The room should also be equipped with night lamps to make the child comfortable. The overall mood of the room should be positive and not dull and gloomy

Furniture For You

Being so busy designing and decorating the room for the new baby, parents often forget to make room for some adult-size furniture. This is a mistake. Don’t forget, it’s not just the newborn/toddler who is going to spend his time in that room, you are also going to accompany him. Make space for a glider chair or rocking chair or feeding chair along with an ottoman for stress-free feeding nights or while rocking the baby to sleep. In case you want to spend some quality time teaching your kid some drawings or the alphabet, you are going to need an adult-size chair or stool to sit with him.

Curtains

Use blackout curtains along with sheer curtains to maintain privacy and adjust sunlight according to the need. Newborn babies sleep most of the time and for a comfortable nap, you might want little or no sunlight whereas, for the rest of the day, sunlight is essential for the babies. The same goes for toddlers and teenagers. Privacy along with comfort is a must.
